GUARD IAN UNDER SECTION 301 0l THE
INCOMPETENT'S ESTATES ACT OF 1935,AS AMENDED
AND NOW,comes MARTHA L.KREPPS,petitioner herein,who
requests your Honorable Court to appoint a guardian for the Estate
of Leona McCanch Conrad.and in support thereof avers as follows:
1.Petitioner,Martha L.Krepps,is an adult individual
who resides at 908 Chess Street,Monongahela,Washington County,
Pennsylvania.
2.Leona McCanch Conrad,the alleged incompetent,is a
76 year old widow who lives at 636 Chess Street,Monongahela,Wash-
ington County,Pennsylvania.
3.The condition of Leona McCanch Conrad is such that
because of mental infirmities of old age,she is unable to manage
her property and is liable to dissipate it or become the victim of
designing persons.(See Exhibit "A".)
4.The estate of the said Leona McCanch Conrad so far as
your petitioner knows is as follows:

6.No other court has ever assumed jurisdiction in any
proceeding to determine the competency of the said Leona McCanch
Conrad and she has no guardian for her estate.
WHEREFORE,your petitioner prays that a citation issue
directed to the alleged incompetent,with notice thereof to the
next of kin,to show cause why she should not be adjudged an in-
competent and a guardian of her estate and person be appointed.

TO THE HONORABLE THE JUDGES OF SAID COURT:
The petition of Pittsburgh National Bank,guardian of th
estate of Leona McCanch Conrad,an incompetent,respectfully
represents that:
1.Leona McCanch Conrad was adjudged an incompetent and
Pittsburgh National Bank was appointed guardian of her estate by a
decree of your Honorable Court dated November 3,1971.
2.The inventory filed by the guardian on January 19,
1972,shows that the estate consists of cash,stocks,U.S.saving.
bonds,real estate and miscellaneous items in the approximate amou t
of $113,000.00.
3.The address of the incompetent is 636 Chess Street,
Monongahela,Washington County,Pennsylvania.
4.The incompetent has no dependents.
5.The incompetent lives at home but requires the
services of two attendants to care for her and to arrange for
groceries,etc.
6.The following creditors of the incompetent have pre-

7.The incompetent is presently being cared for by a
Mrs.Pierce and a Mrs.Beaupierre who attend to the incompetent on
a full time basis at the rate of $75.00 per week per attendant.
Each attendant works every other week so that the monthly amount
due and owing for both attendants approximates $325.00 per month.
Additionally,the guardian is required to withhold Social Security
and Unemployment Compensation funds on behalf of said employees.
Your guardian therefore requests that it be permitted to allocate
$400.00 per month for the personal care of the incompetent.
WHEREFORE,your petitioner prays that your Honorable Cour
either approve p~yment of or set a hearing to determine payment of

ment to Greenlee,Richman,Derrico &Posa,attorneys for the

PETITION FOR ALLOWANCE
TO THE HONORABLE,THE JUDGES OF SAID COURT:
The Petition of Pittsburgh National Bank,guardian of
the Estate of Leona McCanch Conrad,an incompetent,respectfully
represents that:
1.Leona McCanch Conrad was adjudged an incompetent and
Pittsburgh National Bank was appointed guardian of her estate by
decree of Your Honorable Court dated November 3,1971.
2.From the date of said decree until October 27,1973,
the said incompetent resided at her home at 636 Chess Street,
Monongahela,Washington County,Pennsylvania.
3.During said period of time,said incompetent re-
quired constant attention and care and two full-time fema1eattend-
ants were hired who cared for said incompetent,in her home.
4.Recently,said incompetent has become totally in-
continent and difficult to properly maintain.
5.On October 27,1973,said incompetent wad admitted
to a nursing home operated by Havencrest,Inc.,located at 1277
Country Club Road,Monongahela,Washington County,Pennsylvania.

6.The cost of maintaining said incompetent at said
nursing home is $18.50 per day,plus $20,00 per,month for medical
expenses and $20.00 per month for incidentials for an approximate
monthly expense of $595.00.
7.The estate of said incompetent as of November 12,
1973,consisted of the following items:
(a)Principal cash $71.29
(b)Income cash 1,119.33
(c)Principal invested funds 108,213.74
$109,404.36
8.The annual anticipated income from investments is
$5,733.00 and the annual amount of Social Security payments re-
ceived in behalf of said incompetent is $865.20.
WHEREFORE,your Petitioner prays that Your Honorable
Court grant Petitioner allowance to pay the costs of maintaining
said incompetent at said nursing home,and in addition thereto
allow paYment to Greenlee,Richman,Derrico &Posa,attorneys for
the guardian,counsel fees and costs for the preparation and
presentation of this Petition in the amount of $100.00.

keeper,her memory was terrible.She was very confused and
disoriented at that time.In fact,when I went into the house,
the housekeeper told me she had taken her breakfast up,and she
'vas in bed.So I went up to the room to see her,but shoe had gotten
up in the mean time and was fully clothed and back in bed.

flow of blood to the brain?
Well,it involves all the funcstionS df .the br,aiu,memory,orientatio11,
fu'nctions of the body and gets progressively worse.
Is this disease one common in old age?
Yes.
And what is the prognosis inmost cases on this disease?Is .it
progressive?Does it get better?
The prqgnosis is poor.It ge:ts progress ively worse.
In Mrs.Conrad's particular case,what would be your professional
opinion.as to th~prognosis of this arteriosclerosis?

She is very confused.And from what I ha ve heard and ascertained
from the person that takes care of her,she misplaces objects and
invariably tries to get out of the house.Somebody has to be with
her at all times.
Assuming that this state of condition exists and that it 'vill probably
continue to exist,in your opinion wou ld she very likely become the
vic tim of designing persons as far as her economic well being?
She could.I see no reason 'vhy she Ivouldn't.

Well,there are so many that I just---now she goes out,you know.
We have the gates locked now.But she "Jill go out and ask anyone
to come in,whether she knows them or not.So you see how easy
it '~ould be for someone to get her to sign some sort of a check and
then her money would be gone.
Have you seen any evidence of the fact that she can't take care of
her finances?
For years now she's been hiding---whenever she did get any
money you coul'dn't find it until the next day,and she got so that

the clock.Shels never left alone.And they "Jouldn't even leave her
alone to go to the store.They get the neighbor nextdoor to come
and sit with her.
In your relationship with Mrs.Conrad,have you been able to asce tain
the approximate extent of her estate?
Well,to a certain extent.Not all of it because see,I have never
been in---she 'Nasn't too bad when we 'vent to the bank to get these
ne'v checkbooks,these deposit books,you know.But I can tell you
what I know that she has.
'Would you please recite that?
'Well,she has,of course,the home which belongs to her.That',s
right there on 636 Chess Street.Then she has a savings acC'ount at
Charleroi Savings of $7,500.00.I think it's a little bit more becau e
the interest has been added on this year.And then the savings
account at the Mellon National Bank and Trust Company of Pittsburgh
is $9,000.Ou.Savings account at Union Trust is $20,000.00.
And there she had forgotten about the $10,000 one that I found when
I made out her Income Taxes.And the savings account at the Dolla r
Savings,$22,000.Savings account at the Pittsburgh National Bank,

$10,200.00.Savings acc'ount at the First Federal Savings and Loan
Association,$10,OUO.00.Now the Government Bonds,I don't kno'~
I don't know what interest they pay and I haven't had---I don't kno'v
'vhether it's $20,000 or not.But it's,I think.above $10,OUO,
but I wouldn't know because you see,I have never gone into the saf
deposit box 'vith her.
Does she also o':vn stock?
Yes.The West Penn Power Company,Chrysler Motor Company,
Continental Oil Company.Now there's a bunch of stock certificates
in the Mellon National Bank in the safe deposit box.I don't know
'~hether they are any good or not.But they belonged to Mr.McCan~h.
Do you have any idea of the number of shares she owns in each of
these?
No.I don't.And the Swedis h Match Box Company,now I don't kno'v
whether they are any good or whether they aren't.They suggested
to me that we go down to-the International Department and find out.
But'at that time it "~as a little bit harder to manage her and she wOlldn't
go.so I didn't insist.'Because I felt maybe she didn't want me to de
it so I didn't.And the checking acc ount,the time these papers
were made out,'vas about $350.00.But of course,there's been so p.e
checks written since and some money deposited since.so I don't
know 'vhat the balance is.

consequently,after she had made her amount of money,I haven't
paid her.So Leona owes her that.But I have taken it up with her
attorney and with other people that's in power,and they seem to
think that I could have gotten a bond to give them.
