Re: Estate of Howard E. Evans
File No. 63-71-272 I. County of Washington
Gentlemen:
Pursuant to the prov1s1ons of Section 1001 (1) of the Inheritance
and Estate Tax Act of 1961, a PROTEST is filed against the Commonwealth1s
Appraisement .filed December 7, 1971 in the Howard E. Evans Estate of
Washington County.
Mrs. Lorece M. Dickson, executrix, filed the inheritance tax
return reporting numerous savings bonds owned jointly with her uncle,
Howard E. Evans. These bonds were reported at one-half of their full
value or $7311.07.
In preparing his appraisement, the Commonwealthls appraiser
accepted the Estate 1s tax return as filed; the savings bonds were
appraised at $7311.07.
Protestant has reviewed the record in this Estate and discovered
that the savings bonds were kept in a safe deposit box registered in the
sole name of the decedent, Howard E. Evans. Accordingly, since Mr. Evans
had complete possession and control of these savings bonds, it is our
position that they are taxable at their full value of $14,622.14.
