I have talked once again with W~R.Chaney~Chief Appraiser,"
whe informed me that he-could not-change his figure of $3750 valuation
Without'a Court hearing.The executor in this estate had valued the
real estate at $3200.

of $3750 as the appraised value.

Your Honor.I have the necessary papers here in
this estate.The balance consists of cash for equal distribution to f ve
to
children.There is one aspect of this that I want to call;the Court's attentic
attention.In the lifetime of the decedent---well.the question has
to do with the amount of Inheritance Tax.In the lifetime of the
decedent at her request I prepared an agreement which was an
agreement whe reby some people were to take care of her and live

in her house and contained an option for them to purchas e the real
estate.Under the agreement they had the right to exercise it after
her death,which they did.The agreement provided that they be giv:>n
a credit for rent that they paid while living in the house and while t king
care of her.The gist of it all is that the Inheritance Tax Department
put an appraisal of $3750.00 on real estate ,whereas we felt that
$3200.00 would be a proper figure.So there is a difference of $550 00.
I wrote a letter of explanation to them and talked
with them a"about it.And the reason we felt that it should be $3200.Do
was under the agreement the purchaser was given a credit of $550 00
rent,which had been paid in the decedent's lifetime,which left a
balance of purchase price at $3200.00 at death.And we felt that the
$3200.00 was mOre than a fair figure for the worth of the property t
the tim e of death.
If the Court would permit it,I would like to talk
once again with the Inheritance Tax Department to see if it could be
resolved by conference,rathe r than by hearing.Sb I would ask the
Court,if it sees fit,to close the audit,subject'to that conference.
And then I would report to the Court whether Or not it's settled 'and
whether Or not we would agree on a figure.
