Thank you,Mr.Baker.Good afternoon.
Ladies and gentlemen, may it please the Court, members of the
Washington County Bar Association, ladies and gentlemen and
honored guests and,of course, the family of G.Robert Moore.
I'm pleased today to introduce the first speaker and that's
James McCune,my law partner for many years, who is a member
of the Washington County Bar Association and practices in
Washington County.Mr.McCune.

There's a special relationship that exists
between Bob Moore's family and my family. Not only have Bob's
parents and my parents been friends for, many years,Bob Moore
served as my father's first law clerk upon his appointment to
the federal bench in 1971.I graduated from college and
started law school in 1971,and I was keenly interested in the
profession and in Bob's appointment as clerk.
George Robert Moore was born on January 10,1943
in Washington,PA,the son of the late Paul "Chub"Moore and
McMillan High School in 1960 and from Washington and Jefferson
College in 1964,Phi Beta Kappa,Magna Cum Laude,with a•
Waunita G.Wendell Moore. He was graduated from Canon-
perfect 4.0 grade point average.Bob was a product of
•
Vanderbilt Law School, where he served as associate editor of
the Law Review.
After law school,Bob joined the United States
Marine Corps, where he served in the judge advocate general
corps.Bob rose to the rank of captain and served as a judge
in the Court of Military Justice.
Following his service to his country,Bob
returned to Pennsylvania and served as the first law clerk for
my father,Barron P.McCune, who had been appointed to the

United States District Court for the Western District of
Pennsylvania in January of 1971.Dad recognized immediately
that Bob had a superior intelligence, and Bob's devotion to my
father and his hard work made my father's first year on the
federal bench a very productive one.Bob became the dean of
a large number of young lawyers who served my father as law
clerk for more than 24 years on the federal bench.
Bob then entered the practice of law with the
noted Pittsburgh law firm of Eckert,Seamans,Cherin and
Mellot, where he concentrated in the areas of banking,
corporate governance and commercial lit~gation.Bob quickly
became a seasoned litigator in complex commercial disputes.
One of the firm's clients was Equibank,at the time a large
Pittsburgh bank which has, through various mergers, become
part of National City Bank. The officers at Equibank
•
recognized Bob's talent,and ~rought hi~in house with the
bank to manage the bank's commercial litigation.
Equibank was swallowed up by larger banking
concerns, and Bob re-entered the private practice of law.He
associated with the large multi-city firm, and subsequently
decided to return to his home town, where he had always
resided anyway,to experience a different aspect of the

profession, the small town practice.Bob practiced solo for
the last ten years of his life.
Bob's mother,Waunita Moore,who is with us here
today, has been a well-known member of the local legal
community as well.Waunita served as legal secretary to the
law firm of Schmidt and Allison starting in 1956 and most
recently for her son,Bob.Waunita's knowledge and experience
is well-known to many members of the Bar and she has saved the
hide of many Washington lawyers on more than one occasion.
Waunita tells me that she has no intention of retiring.
Bob was a member of the First Christian Church of
Washington,PA.He was married to the late Carol Moore, who
followed him in death on March 18,1999.He is survived,in
addition to his mother,by a son,Aaron Moore,a daughter,
Elizabeth Matush,and a grandson.
Bob was a devoted son, husband, father and
grandfather. In addition to his family,he loved his country,
his profession and his many friends. His powerful
intelligence and burning curiosity made him a fascinating
conversationalist.

Thank you.
He was a loyal friend and a delightful
His death is a loss for our entire profession.

Thank you,Mr.McCune.Is there anyone else
who would like to address the Bar at this time and any
comments they would like to address with respect to G.Robert
Moore? There being none from the Bar,are there any members
of the Bench who would like to make comments?
JUDGE GILMORE:
JUDGE BELL:
Judge Bell.
I knew Bob's parents before I knew Bob.
When I was practicing law in the Trust Building,of course,
his mother,Waunita, was working for Mr.Allison and Mr.
school they kind of kept me abreast of what was going on.
After I became a Judge,of course,I had more contact with Bob
as a Judge. We kind of had a parallel life with respect to
the military because as you heard Bob was in the Judge
Advocate and I also was in the Judge Advocate,so we would

Schmidt and then I met his father. So when he was in law
sometimes exchange war stories. But I always respected him
and his family very highly. And Bob was not only socially and
deepest sympathies to his mother,Waunita;to his children and
professionally,he was a very courteous individual,always
respectful, knowledgeable of the law and in a courtroom
setting he certainly was a formidable adversary. The
•profession will miss him very much.I want to extend my

grandchildren and brother. He is sorely missed.Thank you.
JUDGE GILMORE:Judge O'Dell Seneca.
JUDGE O'DELL SENECA:I'd like to add to what's been said here
today.Mr.Moore was always very courteous, gentlemanly and
professional to me as a lawyer when he first came to the Bar
and when I came on the Bench. It was always a pleasure to
have him in my courtroom and I've known Waunita longer than
I've known Bob and I want to extend my sYmpathies to you and
your family.We'll all miss him.
