Testimony taken before John Aiken,Register of Wills of Washington County,Penneylvania. DR.A.S.SICKMAN:-SWORN Examination by John Aiken,Register. Dr.,you attended William A.o.Cratty,during his illness? Yes sir. ~ill you just state what his illness was? Two gunshot wounds,one in each thigh. Can you giva me the date? July 14th. jWhat time? II About 9 :00 or 9 :15 in the evening. Where did you attend him? At my office and at the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Ican you state the date of hi s death. He died on the same day as the accident. at time? About 11:00 or 11:15. he physically incapacitated at the time he made the will? Yes. As to his mental condition at that time,was it good? He had a good mental condition. Did you hear him express himself as to making of a will? Yes sir. Was that made in your presence? Yes air. He was lying in the operating room,Mrs.Cratty came in,they • Can you state,in your own words,what he did. IIIspoke to each other by name.She called him Will and he called her Mom.She made an expression something similar to,"V/hat am I going to do?"I said to him,I~O you want to say anything elae?" He said,"Yes."I said,''What is it?"He said,"I want everything to go to Mom.It She said,"Oh my,what am I going to do?"He said, "Let the Savings and Trust settle it.1t Who was present? I believe his two daughters,Miss Booth and his brother,r. Cratty,and his wife and Steve Woodward. Are you sure that Mr.Cratty made these statements with the inten- tion of disposing of his estate? I am. His condition was such,that you had him ordered to the hospital? Yes sir. Rather than to his home? Yes. -)(- MISS SARAH BOOTH:-SWORN I Examination by John Aiken,Register. IMiSS Booth,were you present at the hospital on July 14th,1924, when William Cratty was a patient there? Yes sir. How did you happen to be there? Dr.Sickman sent for the family to come.I was at the home of Mrs.Cratty and the girls had preceded her to the hospital and then later,she and I,accompanied by r.Woodward part of the way and then Mr.Woodward called a car to take us the rest of the way and Dr.Sickman took Mrs.Cratty to the operating room. -2- • Did you go to the operating room? Yes. Just to accompany Mrs.Cratty? Yes. Did you hear any conversation while in there,between Mr.Cratty and Mrs.Cratty? Yes sir. Just state,in your own words,what it was. Dr.ickman was with her and I was wi th her,and they recog- nized each other as Will and Mom and she asked what ahe would do. Re said,"Everything is for you Maude,everything is for you Ma.ude.' Was he,in your opinion,physically able to write a will? He could not have written. Vlhat was his mental condition in your opinion,was he conscious? Yes,I know he was conscious. He knew everything? Yes. In your opinion,when he made this statement,did he wiSh every- thing to go to his wife and did he know that he was disposing of his estate? I think he was,because he wanted to see her. And his reference to the disposing of everything,was his property and realty.That is what you understood? Yes. Did he make any statement as to who was to handle his estate? He referred to the Savings and Trust. Do you believe that he made these expressions in the extremity of his last sickness? I think he realized that he was not going to live. When Mr.Cratty used the expressions "Maude"and "},{om ll ,he refer- red to his wife? -3- • He called her IlMom lland "Maude",meaning ra.Cratty. He stated that he wanted the Savings and Trust Company to handle his estate,what Savings and Trust Company did he refer to?
